TL;DR Missing parts upon arrival. Decent steel construction, seems pretty sturdy but I feel it needs bracing or something if any real longevity is desired, assuming you are loading it up into the upper half of the weight range.First things first. This is a heavy item but the one I received didn’t seem packed well enough. The box had obviously been ripped open and someone taped cut pieces of cardboard to it to “fix” it. I guess it worked; all the main pieces were undamaged. However, the hardware must have fallen out because there was none, including the top pulley, although somehow the (useless) ground spikes were still in there. It is just too heavy and too much trouble to send it back to get one with hardware so I’m just buying new hardware on my own. Now, with all that out of the way, the finish seems durable and the build is sturdy. The only real failing I can find is that there is nothing for traction on the bottom of the feet and the ground spikes are about the size of 16 penny nails, which is doing basically nothing to hold the feet in any terrain where you could use them at all. Get some decent size tent stakes for that and know that you’ll have to sandbag the feet on hard surfaces or put some kind of pad on the bottom of the feet to add traction. It actually stands up fine on its own anyway but with the 8-plus-foot legs, there is a lot of leverage working on the top piece when there is a good-sized load on it, so it’s one of these options or add braces between the legs at a lower height, if you’re planning on keeping this for a very long time. If not, then probably just roll with it like it is. The gambrel is sturdy and the winch is fair, not outstanding. At half the price of most and a third of some, and including the gambrel, which is not included with many others, I’m not unhappy with this purchase even though I have some issues. I expect it to do what I need for the foreseeable future.
